
A man remains critically ill in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, after a cycling crash in Co Louth earlier this week.
The injured man, who is in his late 20s, crashed while riding an ebike in Dundalk on Christmas night. He was discovered lying injured in the road and was taken to hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth.
The victim has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital, which specialises in the treatment of serious head injuries.
Gardaí in Dundalk confirmed they were investigating the cause of the crash on the Newry Road, close to the Newry Bridge.
"At approximately 11.35pm emergency services were alerted to reports of a man (late 20s) lying on the road way," a Garda statement said.
"The man was in a serious condition and was removed from the scene by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda where his condition was described as serious. He has since been transferred to Beaumont Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.
"It is believed that the man was travelling on his black electric pedal cycle in the vicinity of Newry Road prior to the traffic incident."
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to come forward. Any road users or pedestrians who may have camera footage, including dashcam, and who travelled on the Newey Road between 11.15pm and 11.30pm are asked to make the footage available to investigating gardaí.
