Cyclist (19) in critical condition after crash involving taxi driver

Gardaí are investigating a crash that has left a 19-year-old cyclist in critical condition

A cyclist is in a critical condition after a crash in Cork in the early hours of Tuesday morning which also involved a driver in a taxi.

The 19-year-woman was on her bike in Cork City when the crash occurred just before 2am. The cause of the collision is under Garda investigation.

Gardai said they were called to the scene of the incident at the junction of Anglesea Street and Union Quay, with paramedics also attending.

“The cyclist, a woman aged 19 years, was removed from the scene by ambulance to Cork University Hospital,” gardai said in a statement. “Her condition is understood to be critical. The driver of the car did not require medical treatment.

“The road at the site of the collision is currently closed pending examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and traffic diversions are in place.

“Gardaí at Anglesea Street are appealing for witnesses to come forward and to those with camera footage (including dash-cam) to make it available to them.”
