As has been the case for the last couple of years, Maynooth Cycles has
secured the Mondello Park track in Co Kildare for a two-hour winter training
session every Wednesday evening.
It’s a motor racing track but it’s used for the Mondello Series of bike
races in the summer months. So it’s well known to cyclists in Leinster and
indeed further afield.
Every Wednesday evening, from 7pm to 9pm, the track is open to cyclists to
go along and get a training spin in – for the full two hours or for a shorter
ride.
You obviously need to have lights on your bike, but as a closed track with
no cars, traffic lights, pedestrians or potholes to worry about it really is
made for winter training.
It should also become a social outing and it would be great for getting club
groups to go along and get some training done as a unit.
At this time of year obviously nobody should be going too crazy, but the
track provides a great opportunity to get two hours into your legs at the exact
intensity you want.
And obviously you can step it up with more serious intervals in the weeks
and months ahead.
Obviously the track needs to be paid for, so it’s €8 per person; a modest
sum for access to a controlled and safe training environment for a full two
hours.

training Facebook page by following this

The training resumes next Wednesday, October 23rd
from 7pm to 9pm. Access is now via gate 4 as it is safer.
