Cycling Weekly magazine has found itself in hot water with cyclists after this embarrassing and insulting caption somehow made it into the print version. It has said the caption does not reflect the culture in the magazine and was an "idiotic" and "appalling lack of judgement".

Cycling Weekly "token attractive woman" photo

Cycling Weekly magazine has been left embarrassed after a caption saying “token attractive woman” was included in one of its photos.

The magazine, which has been very popular in Ireland and Britain for decades, has apologised for the incident.

It was featuring Hinckley Cycling Race Club in Leicester in a club profile and several photos of club members were used.

However, in one of the shots of club cyclist Hannah Noel, the caption read “token attractive woman”.

Noel has expressed her disappointment at being included in the magazine feature in that way.

“So today I made it into Cycling Weekly, it seems not for my ability as a female cyclist but as a ‘token attractive woman’,” she wrote on Facebook.

"I'm absolutely gutted and disappointed in the magazine."

“In this week's issue of Cycling Weekly we published a regular Ride With feature with the Hinckley Cycling Race Club in Leicester,” he said in a statement.

“The caption is neither funny nor representative of the way we feel or approach our work.

“Sadly in the rush to get the magazine finished it was missed by other members of the team and eventually sent to print.

“We would like to apologise unreservedly to the rider in the photograph, the Hinckley CRC and all out readers.

“This appalling lack of judgement by an individual is just that, and not a reflection of the culture in the CW office.”
