Following the news that Cycling Ireland will send a team to the Beaumont Trophy in the UK next Sunday, Cycling Ulster will also send a line-up to the race.
Chris McGlinchey (Chain Reaction Cycles), Lindsay Watson (Plush MTB), Angus Fyffe (Omagh Wheelers), James Curry (Banbridge CC), Darnell Moore (Caldwell Cycles) and Craig McAuley (Caldwell Cycles) have been selected to compete in the UCI-ranked event (1.2) on June 19th.
It should be a great tune-up for the national championships a week later with many of the best UK-based riders also taking part including Madison-Genesis, Condor Cycles-JLT, NFTO and a Great Britain selection among those set to do battle.
The Cycling Ulster team is stacked with strong men and should go there full of confidence in the hope of getting a result.
McGlinchey is having a superb season and as well as winning the Kerry Group Rás Mumhan he’s ridden in the national colours in U23 Nations Cup events in Belgium as well as at the An Post Rás.
He has been one of the stars of the season so far and few would bet against him pulling out a result next weekend.
There is a strong Irish representation overall, in fact, with 13 confirmed starters between Cycling Ulster, Cycling Ireland and Shay Elliott champion Marc Potts who will ride for his NEON Velo Cycling team.
All other five Cycling Ulster men have taken victory at one point or another this year.
Watson won the John Haldane Memorial in February, Fyffe won a stage of the Tour of Ulster and Curry won Ras Dun na nGall at the weekend as well as the final stage.
Moore won the Foyle city centre crit during the week and McAuley won the Waller Cup.
The team will be managed by Anthony Mitchell and Gary McKeegan.
