Skoda speed dating cycling in Ireland: It's happening; a new speed dating cycling event for those looking for love with another bike rider. This is a really interesting event. At the very least, it looks like a bit of craic. And who knows, maybe it will lead to much more...

Most of us spend our time in a group going up and over yapping away about cycling. There’s nothing more social than a good chain gang.
And the beauty of going up and down the group in two lines is that you get to speak to everyone out on the bike with you.
But now the clever people at Skoda believe that might be a formula for finding love; a speed dating cycling event.
They’re holding a 60km cycle where you might just meet ‘the one’ out on your bike.
The ride leaves from Blessington, Co Wicklow, on Saturday, June 30th. That’s still a few weeks away so you have time to rally some support and maybe go along with a buddy.
(Bringing wives, girlfriends, husbands or boyfriends is not advised – Ed).
This event is more of a spin than a sportive. And it will be coordinated, meaning the shape of the group will be maintained.
As a result, every rider will get to meet others looking for love, or at least a bit of fun.
Skoda explains how it works: “There will be two lines of cyclists, males on one side and females on the other.
“A whistle will be blown by a road captain every three to four minutes.
“This is where the top right hand side cyclist peels off and drops to back and all on the right move up a place. This way everyone gets a chance to meet each other.
“It’s an opportunity to meet like-minded people with the same or similar interests. It’s all about men and women who love cycling. Sounds great, right?”

The event is €40 to enter and every rider gets a number of pin on. That'll make it easy to keep track of someone who maybe catches your eye.
Further, there’s a goodie bag, with event jersey, for everyone who enters. As well as that, refreshments will be available on the day.
The gathering point is the Avon Rí in Blessington; sign-on opening at 8:30am on the day. And as it’s only 60km – and non-competitive – this really is an event that should suit a lot of people.
As long as you’re single and open to meeting other cyclists with lovin’ in mind; you’re eligible.
