Cycling races and sportives look set to be given the green light to return after Covid19 lock-down much earlier than previously expected.
While it had been anticipated that a full return to competition and other events would be possible after August 10th, that date now could be moved forward to as early as June 29th.
The Cabinet is meeting this afternoon to discuss their
plans to accelerate the re-opening of the Republic after lock-down.
And part of those plans include restarting sports, and
allowing crowds at outside sports, much earlier than had previously been envisaged.
Initially 200 people would be allowed to spectate at
outdoor sports and from the end of July 500 people would be allowed.
However, it is possible some sports may not return even if permitted to do so from June 29th as they may be working on introducing protocols to make competition safe.
If cycling races and sportives were permitted from June 29th, it may take some time before the first cycling events could be run.
More detail was expected later on Friday after the Cabinet meeting.
