Cycling Ireland’s
road commission is inviting expressions of interest from riders who want to be
part of a warm weather training camp in Spain.
The pre-season
camp is due to take place in February, just before the 2020 domestic road race
season gets underway.
There are 10
places on offer for men and women and riders selected for the camp will be
those looking to race at a high standard next year.
Once the
expressions of interest are received by the road commission they will be
considered at the line-up for the camp chosen.
“The camp
is designed to give riders a chance to prepare for the 2020 road season and
also develop road racing specific
skills,” Cycling Ireland’s road commission told stickybottle in a statement.
“The road
commissions goals are to accelerate the development of each rider by allowing
them to build fitness, gain experience and develop skills necessary for
international level racing in 2020.
“Riders
will have the opportunity to focus on training, recovery and learning in an
environment custom developed to promote as much development as possible over
the course of the week.
“The camp is open to all domestic based U23 male riders 18 years or older and
all female riders 18 years or
older.
“All
riders should have a high level of fitness and should be ready to compete in top level in Ireland with aspirations
of racing internationally.”
While the Cycling
Ireland road commission will pay for the majority of the cost of the camp, a
rider contribution will be required.
The contributions
from the riders will cover a portion of the camp – including travel,
accommodation, food and vehicle – though the road commission will cover the majority
of the cost.
