New commissaires are needed to officiate are races big and small nationwide
Cycling Ireland is to run a two-day course next month to train members of the cycling community to become commissaires, after a recent examination of numbers revealed a shortfall in many regions across the country.
The most acute shortfall of trained officials to adjudicate at races is being experienced in the Midlands, Northwest, Mid West, South East and Dublin areas.
In a bid to increase numbers, Cycling Ireland is running a course for interested parties on February 9th and 10th. The location of the two-day course has not yet been decided and will be selected to suit as many candidates as possible who come forward.
In order to be eligible, candidates must have been a member of Cycling Ireland for at least three years and must have a good knowledge of racing.
On completion of the two-day course, attendees would become “trainee commissaires”. They would then attend races for a season – a minimum of four events – with a fully qualified colleague. Their activities would be logged and when their paperwork is later assessed, if they pass they become grade B commissaires for the following season.

The closing date for expressions of interest is Friday two weeks, January 25th.
