The early season races are not quite so early this time around. That leaves less racing before some of the biggest dates on the domestic scene. The back end of the campaign is also changed around.
Cycling Ireland road racing calender 2018
Cycling Ireland has published its provisional road racing calendar for next year. We’ve set out the full schedule, below, for the first two months of the campaign.

One development for 2018 is the later start to the season. At the recent Cycling Ireland annual meeting it was decided that the mid February racing would be scrapped.
Now the season cannot start until the first weekend in March; a trio of races in Ulster, Munster and Leinster gets us underway on Saturday, March 3rd.

And because Easter falls on the first weekend in April, there are just four weekends of racing before the big Easter showdowns.

Still seeking a sponsor for 2018, the Rás eight-day race is pencilled in from Sunday, May 20th.
And Rás na mBan is set to start on Wednesday, September 5th.
In a new move, all four provincial road race championships are set for the same day; Sunday, August 26th.
If that format becomes permanent it should aid the profile of those title races and lend a better sense of occasion to them.
The National Road Race championships, set for Connacht, are set for the last weekend in June. The elites race on Sunday; July 1st.
There are also road races on through September; the National Hill Climb Championships on the last Sunday of the month concluding the road season.
