Cycling Ireland operations manager departs for new CEO job in Irish sport

Scott Graham, who was operations manager at Cycling Ireland, has left the organisation and become chief executive of Irish Squash

Scott Graham has left his position as operations manager of Cycling Ireland after landing the job of chief executive at Irish Squash. Graham was close to former Cycling Ireland chief executive, Matt McKerrow, and effectively joined Cycling Ireland as part of McKerrow's team as the duo had previously worked together in Triathlon Ireland.

While McKerrow left Cycling Ireland last year, after a period of controversy, he has also since landed a top job elsewhere in Irish sport, being installed as interim chief executive of Hockey Ireland at the end of May.

The role of chief executive that Graham will take up is a newly created post at the squash national governing body. It has been created as part of wider efforts to further develop the sport of squash in Ireland, with the assistance of Sport Ireland.

Graham was initially marketing and communications manager at Cycling Ireland and during his time in that job the performance of the national governing body on social media, and with event previews and coverage, notably improved. The Cycling Ireland website was also overhauled.

A new Irish cycling TV show was broadcast on TG4 while the Irish Independent published a cycling supplement on all aspects of the sport. Those projects were funded by Cycling Ireland and both appear to have been discontinued for some time amid the financial problems that resulted from the governance controversies within the national governing body.

“I am delighted to have been appointed as the CEO of Irish Squash," Graham said in a statement issued by the squash federation. "The sport has enormous potential, and I am looking forward to working with the Irish Squash community, staff, and key stakeholders to further develop the sport and professionalise the organisation.

"My key priority will be to deliver upon the ambitious five-year strategic plan and help bring Irish Squash to new heights.”

Rosie Barry, president of Irish Squash, said Graham had "excelled in the competitive interview" process he completed before being appointed to the new chief executive role.

“This is an exciting time for our organisation as we professionalise operations and we are grateful for the support of Sport Ireland in this regard. The board looks forward to developing a strong working relationship with our new CEO, Scott Graham, so that together with the squash community, we may realise the ambitions set out in our strategic plan.”
