Cycling Ireland has named a small but strong four-rider team for the World Cyclocross Championships in Switzerland next month.

The Worlds take place in Dübendorf on February 1st and 2nd
with races for juniors, U23s and elites.

The Cycling Ireland off-road commission has selected
three juniors and one U23 male rider to represent Ireland.

No riders have been selected to ride the men’s or women’s
elite races, a continuation of the selection patterns of recent years.

National elite champion David Conroy is selected again
and he will ride the U23 race, his last appearance in this category.

Conroy has been racing in Europe once again in recent
months and defended his elite national title last weekend at the National
Cyclocross Championships in Enniscrone, Co Sligo.

Lucy O’Donnell and Roisin Lally will both ride the junior women’s race at
the Worlds.

O’Donnell represented Ireland
last year at the Worlds, on the road and in cyclocross, and has selected again
after her elite bronze medal at the nationals last weekend.

UK-based Lally is a newcomer
to the Irish scene in recent times, having made her debut in the green of
Ireland at the Europeans in November.

Last but not least, one of
the most exciting prospects on the home scene, Darren Rafferty, has been
selected to ride the junior men’s race.

Rafferty is fresh from winning
the Irish junior crown, at the first time of asking, last weekend in Sligo.
