Cycling Ireland lists the 5 situations cycling still allowed in Ireland

Training indoors is listed as one of Cycling Ireland's five safe cycling situations in the Covid19 crisis

Cycling Ireland has formally extended the postponement of its sanctioned events – including races, sportives and others – to April 19th and has also set out the five scenarios in which cycling is still permitted in Ireland.

Governments across Europe have taken different approaches
to cycling in the midst of the Covid19 crisis.

In Ireland cycling is not banned but the general measures
put in place to combat the virus are impacting cycling.

Riding in groups, for example, would contravene the advice to the public to follow social distancing and stay two metres apart from others, excluding those they share a home with.

Now Cycling Ireland has specifically set out the circumstances in which cyclists could continue to ride their bikes while remaining on the right side of the Government measures. They include:

  • Exercising outdoors once per day (solo or with members of your household)
  • Shopping for basic necessities
  • Providing care or helping somebody vulnerable
  • Travelling to/from essential work
  • Indoor training

Cycling Ireland also confirmed that following the Government’s announcement on Tuesday all sporting events were called off until at least April 19th; that effectively extended the postponement of cycling events to that date.
