Cycling Ireland is looking for people to join its leisure cycling commission. Applications are open to anyone but today, Sunday October 15th, is the last day to register your interest.

The national governing body says it is starting the process of re-establishing the commission as part of its strategic plan.

Coming as it does after a decade of growth in the leisure sector of the sport, the commission will likely be busy.

It will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of leisure cycling across the island of Ireland.

The duties of the commission include the following:

  • Manage the leisure calendar to ensure an even distribution of events with minimum clashes.
  • Improve the quality of leisure events by piloting an event feedback system used by the participants
  • Assist with devising ways to lead to a reduction in non-approved Cycling Ireland events
  • Review the policies and technical rules that govern all types of leisure cycling in Ireland
  • Promote Cycling Ireland programmes that will help increase participation through the running of workshops, training days and/or seminars.
