There may be bright light at the end of the Covid19 tunnel for cyclists as restrictions ease but we are still going to be in lock-down for a while and Cycling Ireland has moved to cater for that.
The national governing body has seen huge uptake for its Zwift racing during lock-down; something that has garnered a lot of attention in traditional media outlets.
Over 1,700 cyclists have registered to take part and there have been over 35,000 views per race on social media.
Now the federation has moved to extend its eRacing offering with a series of one-day classics each weekend until we are all racing and riding sportives again.
Cycling Ireland’s Zwift League concludes after 12-weeks this Saturday, June 13th. And the series of one-day classics gets underway the following Saturday, June 20th.
There will be six one-day classics, from Saturday week, to be held every Saturday over the Zwift Worlds courses; Watopia, Yorkshire, London, Richmond and New York.
“Five separate categories are available to choose from allowing male and female riders to compete against those of a similar ability,” Cycling Ireland said.
“Staggered start times will remain in place to enhance participant's experience and enjoyment of the racing action.”
Mid-week racing will continue with the Cycling Ireland women’s only race held on Wednesdays at 7pm and a sprint race, perfect for newcomers to the sport, being held on Thursdays at 7:30pm.
The Alpe du Zwift challenge can be completed in cyclists’ own time over 21 hairpin turns and 1,036 meters of elevation.
