Cycling Ireland has ended a really successful year for Irish cycling with a prestigious award for its high performance unit and now the national governing body has also landed a new sponsor and put some key new personnel in place.
It has announced McKvr as its new official leisurewear partner. The Irish company produces a very large range of clothing across multiple sports including GAA, soccer, boxing and athletics, among others.
And it will now supply the leisurewear to Cycling Ireland, with the federation having previously been supported by Gym + Coffee for several years in the provision of leisurewear.
Padraic McKeever, managing director and founder of the business, said McKvr was "thrilled" to join forces with Cycling Ireland as its official leisurewear supplier.
"At McKvr, we pride ourselves on supporting athletes and sporting organisations at every level, from grassroots to high-performance programmes," he said.
“Our work with elite athletes through national programmes has given us insights that help us continually innovate and deliver kit that is stylish, comfortable and high-performing. We look forward to supporting Cycling Ireland and its members as the sport continues to grow nationwide."
And while that partnership is just commencing, Cycling Ireland has also secured the services of a number of personnel for key positions into the New Year.
Louise Burke has joined Cycling Ireland, taking up the newly created role of chief commercial and operations officer. She has previously worked in a range of jobs in Irish sport, including director of participation with Sport Ireland.
In her new role she will be responsible for driving participation in cycling and also increasing commercial revenues, where Cycling Ireland, and even some of our biggest races, have found conditions very challenging in recent years.
The national governing body also now has two new board members in Valerie Considine and Carol-Ann Heavey. Considine needs no introduction as she has been one of the best known figures helping to drive on Irish cycling for decades, including running Rás na mBan, Ireland's premier stage race for women.
Heavy is a former international swimmer, and Los Angeles 1984 Olympian. She has worked as a change management consultant and has specialised in commercial strategy and brand development.
