Just ahead of the new domestic racing and sportive season, Cycling Ireland has moved to assure members about delays in licences being issued or renewed.

The national governing body is also alerting riders to a processing error occurring with some licence renewals and has told members to simply ignore the error as it will not adversely impact them.

It said while there are delays currently being experienced with licence renewals, riders could use PDFs emailed to them as licences until their licence card was delivered.

It added while members who renewed their licence automatically each year would be seeing an error suggesting their licence had expired on December 31st last, this was not the case.

“Your licence card is valid until the date stated on it and your fee for this year will be debited in due course,” Cycling Ireland said.

The fee for the licence would leave members’ bank accounts on the anniversary of the date they initially paid for their past licences.

“We currently have 13,000 licences that have been renewed since December 2016,” Cycling Ireland said in the notice on its website.

“The licences are being issued in batches, and are being delivered directly to the members. Next week the 2017 events will be on the new system.

“The membership team are currently receiving a huge volume of queries, so apologies if your query hasn’t been addressed. “

Leisure licence holders who were new members in 2016 do not have to renew their licence until the anniversary of when they renewed last year.

This measure was introduced last year, and is valid for all leisure members this year.

However, clubs may ask riders to pay the club fee early in the year; a facility to do this online independently of your Cycling Ireland membership will be available in early February.

The federation is asking all riders to take the following points into account at this busy time of year for licences being issued:

  • Last week the first batch of licences were issued when 2,500 licences were posted. This week another 2,500 will be sent out.
  • Your PDF print of your licence card is valid as your card – so don’t worry if you haven’t received your card yet.
  • The membership team is dealing with 300 plus queries daily, please look at the frequently asked questions section on the website before sending in a query. Clubs should revert to their club official before contacting the federation.
  • Email queries would be answered in rotation. Email is the most reliable way of contacting the governing body despite the delayed response time.

Cycling Ireland is also asking club officials to look at its concise help files, saying the files should bring them through any queries they may have.
