Cycling Ireland has taken the decision to cancel the first of the two junior training days in Carrick-on-Suir, with an announcement due tomorrow regarding the second training day set for Sunday

Cycling Ireland has decided to cancel the first of its two junior information days planned for Carrick-on-Suir this weekend.

The women’s day
was due to go ahead tomorrow, Saturday, but has now been cancelled due to Storm
Jorge.

At the time of
writing, the men’s information and training day scheduled for Sunday, also in
Carrick-on-Suir, was not cancelled.

Cycling Ireland
will tomorrow morning take view on holding Sunday’s event, with an announcement
expected on Saturday morning about whether or not it will go ahead.

“As the
weather warning for Storm Jorge is
still in place for tomorrow - Saturday February 29th - the junior women's training and information day planned
for Carrick-on-Suir has been cancelled,”
Cycling Ireland said in a brief statement on Friday morning.

Cycling Ireland
said it “apologises for
any inconvenience” the cancellation of
Saturday’s event may cause.
However, given the storm warning it seems like a sensible move.

The events – for women on Saturday and men on Sunday –
were set to be held from 11am in Carrick-on-Suir.

Each day was due to start with an endurance road ride,
followed by an information session on the 2020 junior high performance
programme.

Cycling Ireland had signaled in a statement on Thursday that it was monitoring the weather warnings, explaining it would make a decision on both training days 24 hours before each was due to start.
