Cycling Ireland board resignation following decision to nominate Pat McQuaid

The decision by the board of Cycling Ireland to nominate Pat McQuaid for election for his third term as president of the UCI has resulted in the decision of board member Anto Moran to resign.

Moran stated after last Friday's board meeting in Dublin that he had voted not to nominate McQuaid. He is believed to have been the only member of the board to take that stance, with McQuaid's nomination being ratified.

McQuaid, who is nearing the end of his second four-year term as president of the UCI, addressed the board meeting at the Clarion Hotel near Dublin Airport. With the nomination secured, he is now free to run for election as president, a process that will take place in September.

Moran is a Dublin-based member of the cycling community. A member of the Finglas Ravens club, he has been active in that club for around two decades. He raced as an elite rider and still races. Cycling Ireland was unable to confirm to stickybottle last night if Moran had resigned and he was not contactable late last night. However, his resignation has been confirmed by Cycling Ireland in a statement today. It reads:
