Cycling Ireland begins search for new riders to strengthen Irish team

The hunt is on for new riders to pull on the green jersey of Ireland towards Tokyo 2020.

With a number of riders having come from other sports into Irish cycling and shone in recent years, Cycling Ireland is looking for more.

The national federation is now searching for women who have competed at a high level on other sports to try-out for the national track team.

The talent identification effort is specifically aimed at getting more women into track cycling.

And it is hoped an injection of talent will result in Ireland qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

In Rio during the summer, Shannon McCurley was the sole Irish track rider to qualify for the Games.

She did so unfunded and out of the national track set-up as she lives in Australia.
