Cycling Ireland Awards 2019: Top cyclists, clubs, events, officials honoured

Lara Gillespie and Conor Hennebry have
won the female and male riders of the year prizes at the Cycling Ireland Awards
2019.

Sam Bennett was awarded for his stellar
season with international performance of the year for his two stage victories
at the Vuelta.

As well as winning Female Rider of the
Year, Lara Gillespie (Scott Orwell Wheelers) also received a Special Achievement Award.

That was given
to her in honour of claiming individual pursuit bronze
at the Junior Track World Championships and three silver medals at the Junior
Track European Championships.

Conor Hennebry (Dan
Morrissey-MIG-Pactimo) received his prize for winning the National Road Series
at the awards ceremony as well as being voted Male Rider of the Year.

Katharine Smyth: Ballymena Road Club,
who claimed elite bronze and Masters gold at the National Road Race
Championships, was also officially crowned National Road Series winner at the
ceremony.

Among the
recipients of the Special Achievement Awards were Katie-George
Dunlevy and paracycling tandem pilot Eve McCrystal.

They won their fifth world title this year with gold in the time trial at the World Paracycling Road Championships. They also claimed a silver medal in the road race at the Worlds.

Four former cyclists, some of them sadly
no longer with us, were inducted into the Cycling Ireland Hall of Fame.

Mick Lawless and Gaybo Howard, both a
big presence on the domestic scene and who big parts of their lives to cycling,
take their rightful places in the hall of fame.

They are joined this time around by Tour
de France stage winner Martin Earley and former top international rider Peter
Doyle.
