Cycling Ireland has announced some reductions in the fees its members are charged when using EventMaster for entering races and sportives and taking out memberships. The move follows complaints about the cost of the fees charged in recent years.
Some club members who spoke at the Cycling Ireland AGM in Monaghan late last year complained multiple fees were being charged when parents were entering more than one child in the same events. However, it was the size of the fees generally that caused most concern.
Newry Wheelers said when it organised its Newry Three Day last year – which had separate events for men and women – a total of €800 was generated for EventMaster in charges paid by those who entered. The club said it had tried to keep the entry fees down - given the cost of fuel and other inflationary pressures - yet the EventMaster fees were very high.
At the time, Cycling Ireland said it had a multi-year deal with EventMaster, adding if it broke that contract it would face financial penalties. But it pledged to go to EventMaster and take up members' complaints with the company. The national governing body has secured some reductions by speaking to EventMaster and its banking providers.
In a statement, Cycling Ireland said it was "pleased to announce" a reduction in the transaction fees associated with using its event entry and membership system.
"The booking fee now stands at 3 per cent EventMaster fee plus vat and banking changes," its said. "Combined, the blended rate inclusive of vat and banking fees is 5.5 pr cent. The significant rate reduction from 7.5 per cent on certain transactions was made possible following successful negotiation with our payment gateway and banking partners.
"Event organisers have the option of absorbing the fee as part of the ticket price or passing the fee on to participants. Fees are listed at the check-out if they apply.
"The use of the system offers organisers of sanctioned events an competitively priced entry system along with a range of cycling specific functionality and benefits. The Cycling Ireland entry system is used by all sanctioned events."
