The new segregated contra flow cycle lane in Dublin's south inner city has been the scene of a car crash even before the stretch has been officially opened.

Dublin City Council has been completing the lane, ensuring it is segregated from vehicles, ahead of its opening.

However, last night one driver mounted the kerb that marks the start of the segregation just after turning right from Quay St onto Lombard St.

He then hit the sign erected to inform motorists and cyclists that the lane where the crash occurred is for cyclists riding against traffic.
