Criminal inquiry after female cyclist sexually assaulted in Dublin park

Gardai are investigating after a female cyclist told them she was raped while passing a Dublin park area.

 

A female cyclist has told gardai she was raped in Dublin in the early hours of this morning.

The incident took place on an area of parkland in Clondalkin at around 3am on the Ninth Lock Road close to the junction with Neilstown Road.

Early reports suggest the woman was pulled into the area where she was set upon by at least one person.

There were conflicting reports suggesting the woman was walking with her bike at the time or that she was cycling.

It is believed a number of people may have dragged her into the park area at the time.

The extent of her injuries are not yet known and the woman is currently undergoing medical treatment in hospital.

The area has been cordoned off and a forensic examination is currently underway.

The Irish Independent is reporting that when one of its journalists visited the scene this morning the woman's bike was visible there.

Gardai issued a statement confirming there were investigating the alleged attack.

“Gardaí at Ronanstown are investigating an alleged sexual assault of a female which occurred at approximately 3.20am this morning in the Newlands Rd area of Clondalkin,” it said.

“No arrests have been made and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or any person with information to contact them at Ronanstown Garda Station on 01 666 7700.”
