Paul Coyle (Strabane-Lifford CC) may have been narrowly outwitted by Karol Dolan (Omagh CC) in the bunch sprint at the end of the opening stage of the Tour of Omagh on Friday evening but he made no mistake on today’s second stage, taking the win in the sprint to the line.
His performances on those opening two stages have earned him the yellow jersey and lead in the points competition going into tomorrow’s final day of racing, with a morning TT and afternoon road stage to be negotiated.
Coyle is in the yellow jersey, but he is on the same time as 30 other riders so tomorrow’s TT may well be crucial in deciding where the overall honours go. That will be followed by the afternoon stage with a hilltop finish, which promises to be another decisive stage.

The riders faced a wet start to stage two, which rolled out through Dromore and over the 1st KOH of the day on the Irvinestown road. That was taken by points jersey leader Mickey O’Kane from Termon Wheelers.
The riders then progressed towards Enniskillen, with three riders fighting out the bonus sprints – namely Ryan Walsh (Carn Wheelers), Ritchie Sheerin (Foyle CC), Mark McKnight (TVR).
Next was the Cat 2 KOH heading towards Ballinamallard, which was taken by KOH jersey leader Niall McEnhill of the promoting club Omagh Wheelers.
Shortly afterwards a large crash on a descent blocked the road with approximately half the field held up. A few riders were subsequently taken to hospital with shoulder injuries.
On the run in to Omagh the main bunch was still in tact and it came down to another sprint finish.
Coyle made no mistake this time after narrowly missing out on the win in Stage 1, and easily took victory from Ed Boyle and Paul Maguire (both Phoenix CC).
