As road safety improvements go, Irish cyclists could do without this new feature...
We all like to complain about local councils around the country for the lack of cycling infrastructure or the presence of potholes on the roads.
Very often small improvements or even slightly better planning could greatly improve things for cyclists.
Even more frustrating than inaction is seeing a local council carrying out works in the name of safety but putting cyclists at risk in the process.
This photo shared by Twitter user Maurice Cotter of a traffic calming measure in Co Limerick is a case in point.
It has appeared on the N21 at Templeglantine, apparently installed to force drives to slow down on the approach.
But absolutely no regard has been given to the cyclists using this stretch of road.
Those on bikes would literally need to go out into the vehicle lane given the not-very-clever design of this measure.
If you’ve seen similar examples in your own area, send them in to us.
