UFC fight Conor McGregor has an Irish-built carbon racing bike; a mint machine built to his measures and his bling specs. We get a close-up look at his mount; more a work of art than a bike.
Conor McGregor carbon racing bike not short on bling
UFC fighter Conor McGregor has been gifted a spectacular Irish-built bike by Dublin-based FiftyOne Bikes.
The company makes custom-made bikes; to client’s measurements and their spec preferences.
It means clients can not only buy custom made frames from FiftyOne, they can also customise the bikes and components.
And the Conor McGregor bike carries the FiftyOne brand name in gold leaf on a black frame.
McGregor’s name and his ‘The Notorious’ fight name is also included in great detail on the paint work.
Even the pedals – flat rather than tradition clip-ins – carry The Notorious moniker.
McGregor has taken to cycling in recently years under the watchful eye of one of his coaches, Julian Dalby.
He’s a medical doctor, former Irish road race champion, a power lifting world record holder and a strength coach; an interesting character you can read all about right here.
Conor McGregor suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury fighting in 2013. And when he was recovering, he switched some of his cardio training from running to cycling.
You'll see him out on the bike with Dalby getting steady miles in in many of the clips online that explore his training.
For its part, FiftyOne Bikes is owned by former top Irish road racing cyclist Aidan Duff.
He started out racing in the early 1990s, with St Tiernan’s and Bray Wheelers. He would later ride in France for six years with Vendée U.
A very talented international cyclist, he won stages of the Herald Sun Tour and the Tour de Bretagne.
When he returned to Ireland he worked for many years in the bike industry before launching his FiftyOne Bikes three years ago.
