Connor McConvey hospitalised; Michael O’Loughlin in top form

Michael O’Loughlin put in a superb ride in the 1.1-ranked Arnhem-Veenendal Classic in the Netherlands, finishing at the head of a 30-man group just 11 seconds behind the winner, Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo). It was a very bad day for Conor McConvey whose season looks to be over after he sustained a broken wrist in a crash.

Conor McConvey has suffered a broken wrist after a crash in the latter part of yesterday’s 1.1-ranked Arnhem-Veenendal race in the Netherlands.

The An Post Chain Reaction man was in the bunch hurtling towards the finish line when he was clattered from behind and hit the deck hard.

Credit to the big man from Belfast for remounting and finishing the race, albeit over 20 minutes down on the winner.

The 28 year-old was taken to hospital afterwards where an X-ray confirmed his worst fears; a broken wrist that requires up to six weeks to heal.
