Tomás Walsh, who raced with Comeragh Cycling Club in Co Waterford, has tragically lost his life in an accident in France while on a trip to see the Tour de France. The 25-year-old raced with Comeragh for many years from the youth ranks into his junior years and on to the senior bunch.

As well as competing at home - including riding very strongly in the Junior Tour of Ireland in 2018 and winning the Frank O'Rourke Memorial that year - he also went to Belgium to race for a period. He was away in France to watch the Tour but died after suffering an electrocution in a Paris Metro station.

The precise of details of how the accident happened are still not clear but Comeragh Cycling Club has said its members were left devastated at news of his death.
