The stand is a handy device for storing your bike upright without scraping your saddle or bar tape of the garage wall

A 16-year-old transition year student from De La Salle College in Waterford has come up with a novel solution for storing your bikes at home or at races.
Cathal Daley, who rides for the Comeragh club in Waterford, established the Upright Cycle Stand as part of the Enterprise Mini Company project in his school. And his handmade hardwood stands, which attach through a pedal and cleat system to your bike, are beginning to sell like hot cakes.
“I got the idea over the summer when I was looking for a stand for my own bike,” said Cathal.
“I wasn’t really happy with what was out there and I like the way my stand doesn’t touch off the frame or the rims at all. There’s nothing really like it out there, so I like that aspect of it as well.”
At the moment, a LOOK pedal based stand costs €25 while a Shimano pedal edition costs just €29.50.
“There’s a template for some parts of it and a lot of measurements are the same for each one so it’s pretty easy really,” he said.
“The main ones would be Look and Shimano based but if anyone has any other type I’m sure we can accommodate them. I’m busy filling orders at the moment but I’ll have a load more done in January.”
If anyone is looking for a novel, well made Irish made bike stand before the new season, give Cathal a shout at https://www.facebook.com/uprightcyclestands or you can email [email protected] for more information.
