A new fund has opened for clubs and promoters running races and other events, such as sportives. Clubs and other promoters will be able to make an application to receive funding to run their events, which will be particularly important as Irish cycling continues to emerge from the pandemic period.

A very large number of events were cancelled in both 2020 and 2021 and while many returned this year, participation numbers were lower than in previous years. That situation has resulted in many event promoters being short of funding and also facing what are effectively re-start challenges for next year as their events were halted for a couple of seasons.

Cycling Ireland chief executive, Matt McKerrow, told the national governing body's annual general meeting in Monaghan Town on Saturday that the fund for event organisers was about to open. And that fund has now owned for applications today.

Cycling Ireland described the fund as a "ringfenced event support budget will be made available to support events that can demonstrate their impact and role in achieving objectives" within Cycling Ireland’s 2020-2024 strategic plan.

"The formalised application process is open to Cycling Ireland sanctioned events across all disciplines and funding is provided for essential safety, operational and logistical expenses. Applicants should provide costings and detail of how funding would be utilised," Cycling Ireland said.

The application process will close on December 11th. Submissions should be made to [email protected]. Depending on the level of submissions, the outcome of the panel's deliberations will be communicated to applicants in January.
