Giulio Ciccone (Lidl Trek) has given Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain Victorious) a piece of his mind (video below) over allegations the Colombian took a prolonged sticky bottle on yesterday's stage 19 of the Tour de France.
The two riders are effectively competing for the last place in the top 10 overall, with Ciccone 10th overall and one place ahead of Buitrago.
But the gap between the two riders was reduced to just 10 seconds on the road to Isola 2000 yesterday after Buitrago finished 34 seconds ahead of Ciccone, who clearly how has own theories about how the Colombian had stayed ahead of him on the road.
While the alleged incident was not captured by the TV cameras, the exchange between the duo in the finish area certainly was, with Ciccone challenging Buitrago, who was more than keen to fight back.
"Hey! We were three behind you, we saw everything. With the bottle like this, it's not correct. This is the Tour de France," Ciccone told Buitrago.
To which Buitrago responded: "I've learnt it from you!"
The most famous sticky bottle - by a GC contender caught on camera - was that of Vincenzo Niabli during the 2015 Vuelta. It resulted in his disqualification from the race and you can view the video here.
