One of the country’s top road riders has this morning awoken to discover his €12,000 bike has been stolen from his car overnight, just a few hours before the national championships in Kilcullen.
Tour of Ulster stage winner Marcus Christie was staying at the Johnstown House Hotel and Spa in Enfield last night when the theft took place.
The bike, a limited edition Giant Propel, was snatched from the backseat of the car when thieves smashed a window to gain access before making off with it.
Christie had been given the bike from his former team Bissell-ABG and had added a few extras to bump up the price of it considerably.
It came with Zipp 404 wheels and a Quarq power meter and was blue and black in colour.
The former Irish international is hoping someone saw something in the early hours of this morning and is hoping against hope he can get it back.
“I’m absolutely gutted and disgusted,” he told stickybottle this morning as he made his way to the race in Kilcullen with ASEA-Wheelworx teammate Bryan McCrystal.
“I went to check on it this morning and saw the window had been smashed and everything was gone.
“That bike was worth a fortune and I appeal to everyone to keep their eyes peeled.
“We phoned the guards about it so we’ll hope for the best.”
At the time of writing, Christie was trying to procure another bike to race today.
