Facing an uncertain future, Chris Froome is still putting in huge training. He has posted his longest training ride to Strava. And he's also shared some video and photos of his training in South Africa at present.

Clearly doing his best to show his troubles are not impacting his preparations for the season ahead Chris Froome has posted a huge ride to Strava.

He called the session "emptying the tank". And while he has not posted his power, the distance and speed are both truly eye-watering.

Froome rode for 168.79 miles, or just over 270km. And he competed the ride in just under seven hours; 6hrs 59mins 44secs to be precise.

That's an average speed of 27.8mph or 44.8kmph.

He has only recently returned to Strava. And since the start of the year, just four weeks ago, he has posted training rides with a cumulative 4,500km.

That's almost 140 hours, 33 of which were completed last week in a big block.

He's an early riser, leaving his home in Johannesburg, South Africa, at 6.30am on Sunday for his big session, most of which was likely motor-paced.

Froome is currently facing a possible ban from racing due to inflated levels of asthma drug salbutamol in his system at the Vuelta.

He returned a test sample containing twice the permitted limit on stage 18 of the race.

And now he and his team must come up with a legitimate explanation for the UCI as to why his levels were so high. If he cannot then he faces a ban and being stripped of his Vuelta win.

The team may argue his kidneys malfunctioned; storing traces of the drug for two days and expelling it from his body in a much higher than normal dose.

However, some people in the sport have called on Team Sky to withdraw him from racing until he issue is addressed.

It has said it will not do so. That stance has proven unpopular as others in the sport argue it damages cycling.

And while Froome's posting of his rides on Strava offers an interesting - if limited - insight into his training, it will leave him open to the charge he is trying to detract attention away from the doping test result.

Indeed, the fact Froome returned to Strava in December, just after news of the test result broke, was seen as a cynical move in some quarters.
