Chris Froome to ride Tour de France as domestique after selection confirmed

Chris Froome will ride the Tour de France in support of Michael Woods and he will also be the team captain for the three-week race

Chris Froome has been selected for the Tour de France but will ride for the team’s general classification leader, Michael Woods, rather than leading the team himself.

Israel Start-Up Nation had already said before today that Woods would lead the team and ride for general classification, while also aiming for stage wins.

Dan Martin’s selection for the race has not been officially confirmed, but the team has already indicated in recent days he would ride the race with the aim of winning a stage rather than riding for the overall.

Froome’s selection for the Tour, which was not guaranteed
as his form has been poor, was confirmed by the team on Tuesday.

“After two years away from the Tour de France I can’t wait to get back. It has been an arduous journey since my crash at the Critérium du Dauphiné in 2019, but this has been one of my biggest motivations”, Froome said.

“We have a strong contender in Michael Woods, and I look forward to giving my all for him and the team in the battle to Paris.”

The team’s directeur Rik Verbrugghe said while Froome
would not lead the team, he was the designated road captain.
