Chris Froome has been mistaken for a leisure cyclist in a French TV news report about road closures due to forest fires.
The Israel Start-Up Nation rider was filmed (in the video below) in black training kit riding up to a local council worker who waves him down to inform him the road ahead is closed.
And when the footage was broadcast on the TV news, the reporter's voice-over accompanying the clip describes him as a "randonneur à vélo," which means 'a leisure cyclist'.
"Nobody gets through, not even this randonneur à vélo," the reporter says.
Nobody in the France 2 TV station spotted it was four-time Tour de France winner Froome on the bike in their clip on the regional news. It looks like Froome was training in the region of the Massif de l'Esterel mountains as roads have been closed there due to the fires in the region.
