Well-known ex-pro cyclist, turned TV presenter and businessman Chris Boardman is today coming to terms with the tragic death of his mother Carol who was killed while out cycling in Wales today.

It has been confirmed that the mother of 1992 Olympic pursuit champion and former Tour de France yellow jersey Chris Boardman has died after being involved in a collision with a vehicle while riding her bike in Wales.

The former Hour Record holder and three-time wearer of the yellow jersey at the Tour broke the news on his own personal twitter account this afternoon, Sunday.

In a moving tribute to her, Boardman paid tribute to her saying:

"In the early hours of Sunday morning, our mum, Carol Boardman, died from injuries sustained in collision with a car whilst out riding her bike in North Wales.

“Our mum was the most positive, outgoing person you could ever hope to meet and her generosity of spirit inspired everyone she met," Boardman wrote.

“Wanting to share her passion for cycling, even well into her seventies, she often took groups of young novices out on their first forays into North Wales.

“She leaves behind Keith, her partner for more than half a century, Lisa and I, and a large, loving family. We cannot yet conceive of a world without her in it. We love you, Carol, may the wind ever be at your back.”

From all at Stickybottle we offer our most sincere condolences to Chris and the extended Boardman family during this difficult time.
