Young children on bikes hospitalised after crash with driver in car

The children were cycling close to their home when a crash occurred which also involved a driver in a car. A Garda investigation into the crash is now underway

Gardai have launched an investigation into a road crash in Tipperary yesterday involving a motorist in a car and two children on bikes.

The children were cycling near their home when the crash
with the driver of the car occurred.

Paramedics attended the scene and the children – aged 9
and 12 years – were taken to hospital.

Their injuries are not life threatening though one was
continuing to undergo treatment at South Tipperary General Hospital.

The other child was taken to Temple St Hospital, Dublin,
with some reports locally stating that child was airlifted from the scene.

The crash occurred on the Thurles to Moyne road near Templetuohy
yesterday afternoon.

The Garda issued a short statement last evening
confirming some of the details of the crash.

“Gardaí are currently attending the scene of a road
traffic collision on the Thurles to Moyne road, Co Tipperary, which occurred
this evening Monday, August 19th.”

The statement from the Garda added that the road was
closed for a period on Monday with local diversions put in place.

One local politician said while the children were taken
to hospital they were expected to make a full recovery.

"Thankfully, there were no fatalities, and, despite
being brought to hospital, both will be ok," said Jackie Cahill TD.
