Charity activist Liam Mulcahy robbed just weeks after daughter Sophie's death

Liam Mulcahy and daughter Sophie who passed away aged 8 years last month. The charity campaigner has just been robbed for the second time this year.

Well known charity campaigner and cycling enthusiast, Liam Mulcahy has been targeted by thieves just one month after the death of his eight-year-old daughter Sophie, who had battled serious illness since birth.

Mulcahy was targeted in his home at Rhebogue, Co Limerick, last night, Wednesday, when a training bike was stolen.

While the Trek 4 Series mountain bike was not valuable, the breach of the family’s privacy and their security comes at a time of extreme grief for them.

“It was out the back of my house when I going to bed last night and when I woke up this morning it was gone,” Liam explained.

“It’s a real sickener because I had only just bought it and hadn’t used it very much. It’s not worth that much so it could be easy to sell off.

"So I’d hope that if anyone sees it for sale online on the likes of DoneDeal or eBay to report it.

"There are also a lot of students around who would only love a cheap bike too so I’d hope they could be vigilant as well.

While the theft of a bike may be minor compared to their grief, the latest incident is a really unwelcome invasion into the Mulcahys lives at a very difficult time.

“The bike (above) is mainly red with some black on it too; the tyres are new and it’s in really good condition so I’d be keen to get it back.

"It’s been a tough month and I was looking forward to getting out and hitting few trails on it.”

It’s not the first time Mulcahy has had bikes stolen this year.

In June his ‘Cycle 4 Sick Children’ organisation were robbed on a trip to Liverpool where they were due to take part in a fundraiser for Hillsborough disaster charity group.

The van they had travelled in from Ireland on the car ferry was broken into as Mulcahy and the other five campaigners were visiting Anfield stadium.

All six bikes, each valued at around €3,000, were stolen along with their passports, cash, a satnav and even clothes.

Anyone with any information on the latest theft can contact the gardai in Henry Street, Limerick, on 061 212 400 or Mulcahy himself through his Facebook page.
