One of Ireland's longest standing and best known bike businesses has just ceased trading. The reasons for the decision were not immediately clear, though market conditions have softened.
Irish cycling business Centro Ltd ceases trading
Having begun over five decades ago the Dublin-based Centro Ltd bicycle distribution business has ceased trading.
The reason for the company ceasing operations after 51 years in business was not immediately clear.
However, its deal as Trek distributor on the island of Ireland came to an end during the summer.
The US giant has decided to deal directly with retailers.
Conditions in the bicycle retail trade have also softened globally. A larger than ever number of retailers is now competing for a contracting market.
Centro was based in the Bluebell Industrial Estate, Inchicore, south Dublin.
As well as having had dealt the Trek brand until recently, Centro was also distributor for other brands in Ireland. They include Dawes, Megamo, Riddick, De Novo, Ryedale, Whistle, Squish, British Eagle, Phoenix and Concept.
And to compliment its bike business, it also traded in components including Weldtite, Velox, Dawes, Union and Peruzzo.
