Liam Corcoran, riding for local team Castlebar CC, was best of the Irish on today’s third stage of the Junior Tour which finished at the top of the cat 2 Ballycastle climb.
He was third home after the 113.5km stage, in a small group that finished some 12 seconds after stage winner Hugh McCarthy (Maxgear Champion).
The South African rider Gibbons Ryan was second, coming home at the head of the seven-man group that lost out to the flying UK rider McCarthy.
Danny Bruton, the DID Dunboyne man riding for a Leinster selection, was the only other Irish rider in that small group and took fifth on the stage.
It was a very good day for the Maxgear Champion riders, with Jacob Ragan holding onto the yellow jersey that he took yesterday. McCarthy holds the lead in both the points and climbers’ classifications, with Ragan second in both.

And Ragan also holds the lead in the first year junior classification.
Best of the Irish on GC is Cormac Clarke in sixth place, at 51 seconds. He rode very well in this race last year and has gotten even stronger this season so will be looked to by his Stena Line Ireland team to pull something out of the bag overall over the remaining three stages.
Clarke will have plenty of opportunity tomorrow to make his mark, with the riders facing a 98km very tough stage around the lumpy and wild roads of Achill.
