One of Ireland’s oldest and most successful cycling clubs, Carrick Wheelers has secured new financial backing in the shape of a long term deal with South East fruit and vegetable company Iverk Produce.
The company, which is based in Piltown in Co Kilkenny and employs 150 people, has agreed an initial three-year sponsorship deal.
Carrick Wheelers, which was founded in 1954, has been sponsored in recent years by Cidona and construction firm Dan Morrissey.
Stickybottle understands Dan Morrissey will again be involved in the cycling scene next year and is expected to unveil its plans in that regard in coming weeks.
Carrick Wheelers public relations officer Cian Power said the club was delighted to have attracted another substantial business to back its riders and activities into the future.
He said the three-year agreement was an “excellent deal” with a very strong local company.
“With this sponsorship from Iverk Produce we can continue to generate future Olympians, European and national champions, Rás winners and Irish Internationals as we’ve done over the past few decades.”
As well as focussing on developing its riders, Power said the club had always been very interested in event promotion and this would remain the case under the new deal with Iverk.
“We’ll be able to continue our pro-active stance on the promotion of races, leisure events and under-age leagues at the heart of Irish cycling.”
Iverk is one of Ireland’s largest distributors of quality fresh fruit and vegetables to the retail, wholesale and food services sectors. It supplies to a number of major clients including well-known supermarket chain Aldi.
