Caleb Ewan dropped from Tour de France team
Australian fast man Caleb Ewan has been left out of the Mitchelton-Scott line-up for the Tour de France. And he is not at all happy about it.
The 23-year-old, who has won stages in the Vuelta and Giro, was clearly getting set for his first Tour.
But when the team sheet was unveiled today, his name wasn’t on it.
Instead, it is a team built around the general classification aspirations of Adam Yates.
“Devastated is an understatement of how I feel about Mitchelton SCOTT’s decision to leave me at home this July,” Ewan said.
“I was on track to being more than ready for my Tour de France debut.
“So much hard work has gone into this from my sprint team and I to be ready for our big goal this year.”
Team directeur Matt White didn’t tackle Ewan’s omission from the team in his remarks about the selection.
“There have been some really tough decisions made this week, the toughest in our organisation’s history,” he said.
“We have 12 riders who are ready to go, but based on our performances this season we believe we have selected the best group who can deliver our objectives at the Tour de France next month.”
The team is made up of Jack Bauer, Luke Durbridge, Mat Hayman, Michael Hepburn, Damien Howson, Daryl Impey, Mikel Nieve and Adam Yates
