British rider's incredible near miss with "sideways Suzuki Swift" | Video

When a Suzuki Swift, being driven at speed, came at these riders sideways on their training rider, they just about managed to miss it

Anyone who commutes or trains on the roads knows how sketchy things can be, especially with the standard of some of the driving - not to mention the speeding, drink driving and mobile phone use. The list goes on.

And in Britain on Thursday two riders were very lucky to escape serious injury, or worse, when a driver in an oncoming vehicle lost control. The car - a Suzuki Swift - was sideways across the road and skidding towards the riders.

The cyclist at the back of the line sees the car at the last moment and instinctively moves to his left, with the vehicle just about missing him, before it overturned as crashed into the ditch. The near miss happened at Sywell in Northamptonshire at around lunchtime on Thursday.

One of the the riders, George Fox, has shared this clip online, recorded on a Garmin Varia, and has confirmed everyone walked away from the incident, despite the impact of the car crashing.

The Suzuki Swift also rebounded out of the ditch after turning over and crashed into an oncoming vehicle in what must have been a very scary incident.

Fox runs George Fox Cycling Solutions, a bike fit company and coaching business for TT riders and triathlon. He is the British 10 mile TT record holder for road bikes.

"Nearest of misses for myself and a friend today," he said. "Garmin Varia capturing the scary moment we were nearly flattened by a sideways Suzuki Swift. Everybody walked away, just."
