British newspaper's correction after Vingegaard "two girlfriends" blunder

The Guardian newspaper has published this incredible clarification about Tour winner Jonas Vingegaard

Jonas Vingegaard could be seen on the phone immediately after many Tour de France stages but he was calling his girlfriend and daughter rather than trying to run a more complicated personal life.

When the Danish rider knew he had the final yellow jersey in the bag, after his 2nd place in the stage 20 TT on Saturday, he finally allowed himself to speak publicly in terms of winning the race. And one of things he mentioned was all of the people who helped him, including his team.

Mostly, he dedicated his win to his "two girls", meaning his partner and their young daughter. Unfortunately The Guardian newspaper - always known for its excellent coverage of cycling, it must be said - made an embarrassing error in their live blog of proceedings on the day.

Instead of quoting Jumbo Visma's Vingegaard speaking about winning the Tour for his "two girls", it said he spoke about his "two girlfriends", which would have raised more than a few eyebrows.

The Guardian printed a clarification, stating: "This post was amended on 22 July 2022. Vingegaard was referring to his girlfriend and daughter, not two girlfriends as we said in an earlier version."
