British entrepreneur recruiting riders for new Irish team; promises "Team Sky approach"

The new team will ride under the Liquidworx and FitScience brand names and will be based in the west of Ireland; primarily in Co Mayo.

An English-born entrepreneur is set to provide backing into what he believes will be one of the most ambitious amateur teams to ever race the domestic scene in Ireland.

Derek Bowyer, originally from Southampton but now living in Co Mayo, is looking to enter a five to six man racing team into all the major races in Ireland next year, with the goal of breaking the stranglehold held by southern heavyweights Planet-Tri and Aquablue.

Working together with Simon Walsh and James Geraghty of www.fitscience.ie, a bike-fitting and coaching services facility also based in Mayo, they are looking to combine their talents coupled with financial and logistics backing to aid and assist a team throughout 2014 and beyond.

“Our aim is to compete at the very highest level within Ireland with a small dynamic squad with a strong focus on being as professional as possible," Bowyer said.

"We'll use the latest training methods and ensure the riders have a solid team to support them throughout the season. We want to challenge for all the major races next year including the Des Hanlon, Rás Mumhan, the Elliot and the Suir Valley amongst others."

"We’ll be adopting the same attitude as the likes of Team Sky, where nothing is left to chance because we feel that racing in Ireland deserves that,” explained Bowyer.

“Each race will be approached with the same precise and professional attitude and we will commit to each and every rider and hope to bring something a little different to the Irish peloton."

"And with the standard of riders in Ireland there is always room for teams looking to commit to the talent available.”

"We’ll provide riders with training programmes, nutrition plans, logistical support, team kit and ensure equipment like power meters are available. Riders need these in place to compete at the highest level and we will ensure these building blocks are in place for them right from the start.”

Bowyer said he is now accepting applications to ride with the team. If anyone is interested, he can be contacted via e- mail [email protected]
