Boy (9) airlifted to hospital after crash with driver in car while out cycling

A 9-year-old boy was hit by a driver in a car while cycling early on Tuesday afternoon in Co Limerick

A boy has been airlifted to hospital with critical injuries after he was involved in a crash with the driver of a car while he was cycling.

The 9-year-old
was taken to Cork University Hospital, where he was described as critical but
stable, after the crash on Tuesday afternoon in Co Limerick.

Local gardai from Bruff and paramedics attended the crash scene before the boy was airlifted to hospital in Cork.

The Garda issued
a statement on the crash, which it said was still under investigation.

“Gardaí attended the scene of a single vehicle road traffic collision which occurred in the Kilmallock area, Co Limerick, this afternoon,” it said.

“Shortly before 1pm, a car collided with a male youth who was riding a bicycle. Emergency services also attended the scene.

“The youth was taken to Cork University Hospital with
what are believed to be serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.”
