Bora-hansgrohe issues statement on Sam Bennett “great success story”

Sam Bennett is now set to leave Bora-hansgrohe, his team of the last six years

Bora-hansgrohe has confirmed it has relented to Sam Bennett’s desire to leave the team for pastures new next year.

A dispute had arisen between the Irishman and his German
team of the last six years, with the team insisting Bennett had agreed to ride
for it next season.

However, Sam Bennett was very keen to leave and has a
transfer to Deceuninck-QuickStep lined up.

Just last week Deceuninck-QuickStep’s general manager Patrick
Lefevere told Belgian media Bora-hansgrohe had finally agreed to let Bennett
depart.

And now Bora-hansgrohe has confirmed that in a statement
saying it and Bennett were now set to “go separate ways”

“After a great story of success in the past years, Bora-hansgrohe
and Sam Bennett have decided to go separate ways,” the team said.

“Against this background it however became more and more
difficult to align the team’s and rider’s goals.

“Therefore, management has decided to accept Sam Bennett’s
wish to leave (the team) and continue his journey with another team.

“Bora- hansgrohe wishes Sam Bennett all the best for his
future and hopes that he can live up to his sporting dreams.”

The team had become crowded of late with Peter Sagan,
Pascal Ackermann and Bennett all vying for lead roles in Grand Tours.

When Bennett was told at the end of last year Ackermann
was being picked for the 2019 Giro he was left bitterly disappointed and that
effectively sealed his desire to leave the team.
