Boost for group of Irish riders as Tour of Britain now an option after invites

Ben Healy has already taken some big wins and he will fancy his chances of making an impact, and contending for a stage, at the Tour of Britain in September now that Trinity Racing has secured an invite

The Tour of Britain has confirmed it is going ahead in September and has now set out which Continental teams have secured places in the race to face-off against WorldTour and ProContinental riders.

There is good news for a small but talented group of
Irish riders competing with UK-based Continental teams as their squads have
been given the nod to ride the race.

And with the rest of the year expected to be tricky due to Covid-19, it is crucial for riders to have such a big event to aim for later in the year.

All five British Continental teams have been invited this
year; Canyon dhb SunGod, SwiftCarbon Pro Cycling, Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling,
Saint Piran and Trinity Racing.

Three of the five have Irish riders on their rosters;
Trinity Racing with Irish champion Ben Healy along with Finley Newmark and Matt
Devins.

Mick Bennett is race director at the Tour of Britain, set to take place from September 5th to 12th, said he was delighted to invite the five teams, as well as a Team GB selection.

We hope that these early invitations give them the chance to plan ahead to September, safe in the knowledge that their place is assured, so that they can arrive at the Tour of Britain in the best possible condition,” he said.

“We know from recent editions of the race that the Great British squad and domestic teams can illuminate the race – I’m looking forward to more of the same later this year.”
