Irish junior racing has been given a boost with news that the Road National Series will this year have events for junior riders.
While the series is now well established, it has always been for elite and U23 male and female riders.
The introduction of a new junior series, for male and female riders, is very timely as young riders have lost development opportunities since the start of the pandemic.
The new Road National Series for juniors will feature three rounds this year, but can hopefully grow in the seasons ahead and will assist in developing junior riders.

The first race in the series will be the Newcastle
Wheelers Road Race in Limerick on June
20th, when the male and female elites and U23s also start their series.
The second round will
be the John Beggs Memorial in Banbridge on August 14th and the third and final
round will be the National Road Championships in Wicklow, with a date yet to be
confirmed.
In other news, which could be a very attractive development
for young Irish riders, the Zappi Racing development team in Britain has
invited expressions of interest for its new Continental team next year.
It is retaining its development team, which has featured
Irish riders in the past, and now members of that team will be able to
sometimes step up to the new Continental team mid season.
Ben Healy, the Irish elite and U23 road race champion
currently riding the Baby Giro, and Irish rider Mitchell McLaughlin were both
members of the Zappi development team in recent seasons.
It has ridden an impressive calendar of UCI-ranked races
in Britain and Europe and has proven to be a strong development squad.
And now Zappi has announced it is adding a separate
Continental team for next year and has thrown up the application process.
Any riders who are interested in applying can find more details in the post below or email [email protected] and [email protected].
